The Liberation of Night

It seems very possible that the “Liberation of Night” means the murder of the sun. The phrase does a lot of things with three words, because Alexis is very good at his job. If the emphasis here is on Liberation it reads a lot like “The liberation that is achieved in the night, away from the light of the Judgements”. If the emphasis is on Night it comes out more as “The act of freeing the night”. The revolutionaries want freedom, as revolutionaries tend to do, and it’s tempting to think that they want freedom from the Masters and the Bazaar. However these little commercial slaveries that the Masters enforce are petty compared to the rules imposed by the judgements. What better cause for a revolution than the overthrow of the ultimate authority?
Between stars lies the liberation only possible at night, far from the prying eyes of the Judgements. To bring this about on earth requires the negation of the sun. Perhaps it’s not a question of murder, perhaps they merely wish to drive the sun away, but murder is far more dramatic a climax to a story.
How does one kill a star?

You’re close, but the Liberation is far grander in scope than that. The ultimate goal of the Revolutionaries is the absolute extinction of light- the destruction of every star in the sky, the absolute eradication of the Judgements and their laws. Whether or not they’ll be able to pull it off is another question entirely; if things go according to plan, they at least manage to pull off a test-run in the Neath, making the darkness even darker. This also kills the Bazaar. You’ve basically got the gist of it, though. The cosmos will yet be free of light and law.
